The Golf Society App That Finally Sorts the Admin
We built RiddyGolf because we were fed up doing it the hard way. Here's what we learned — and why we think it'll change how you run your society.
It's the Tuesday before the society day. You've booked the course, sorted the format, even remembered to bring the trophy from last year. And then it starts.
The WhatsApp messages. "Mate, can I pay you on the day?" "I might need to drop out, not sure yet." "Who's in my group?" Sixteen players, twelve different payment situations, and you haven't even left the house.
We've all been that organiser. And that's exactly why we built RiddyGolf.
Built by organisers, for organisers
RiddyGolf started as a conversation between a group of friends who'd been running golf societies for years. Not professionally - just the usual story. Someone volunteers to sort it, discovers it's a second job, and quietly resents it for the next three months.
We spoke to 71 golf society organisers before we wrote a single line of code. What came back was pretty consistent: 41% said collecting green fees was the hardest part of the whole thing. Not finding a course. Not organising the format. Chasing money.
"The booking is the easy bit. It's the three weeks of admin that follows that kills you." — Golf society organiser, East Sussex (survey respondent)
That's the problem we set out to fix. Not golf itself, the sport's brilliant. The bit before and after the round that most people never see.
What a golf society app should actually do
There's no shortage of apps that do one or two things reasonably well. But most organisers end up stitching together a group chat, a bank transfer request, a WhatsApp poll and a handwritten scorecard. It works. But it could be better.
RiddyGolf brings it all into one place:
Create events in seconds: Set up your society day, add your players and share the details straight from the app
Collect green fees properly: Integrated Stripe payments mean money arrives before the round, not in dribs and drabs afterwards
Run live scoring: Digital scorecards and a real-time leaderboard that everyone can see on their phone
Send automatic reminders: Stop being the person who has to chase. The app does it for you
Support multiple formats: Stableford, medal, match play - whatever your society runs
Why this matters for social golf right now
Golf is changing. England Golf's 2025–2030 strategy is pretty clear about this. The future of the game is flexible, social and digital. More people are playing through societies and informal groups than ever before, and the infrastructure to support them hasn't kept up.
Society organisers are, in a lot of ways, the unsung backbone of grassroots golf. They're the reason 16 mates get on a course every month instead of zero. They deserve tools that make that easier, not harder.
That's what RiddyGolf is. Not a reinvention of golf, the game doesn't need that. A better way to run the bit around it.
